Pallets are the most efficient way to move larger quantities of goods. A pallet that is built well arrives safely; one that is badly stacked can shift, overhang or even be refused at collection. Here is how to get it right.
Know your pallet size
| Pallet type | Footprint |
|---|---|
| UK standard pallet | 1200 × 1000 mm |
| Euro pallet | 1200 × 800 mm |
| Half pallet | Around 1200 × 500 mm or 600 × 800 mm |
Tell us the type, the total height and the weight of each pallet when you ask for a quote. Height and weight limits can vary, so we will confirm what is possible for your delivery.
Stack it properly
- Put the heaviest items on the bottom and the lightest on top.
- Keep everything within the edges of the pallet. Overhanging goods are easily damaged.
- Stack boxes in an interlocking, brick-like pattern so the load holds together.
- Keep the top as flat as you can.
Wrap and secure
Wrap the load tightly with stretch film, including a few turns around the pallet base so the goods and pallet move as one. Use straps for heavy or awkward loads and corner boards to protect the edges.
Label it clearly
Put a label on at least two sides with the delivery address, a contact phone number and the number of pallets in the consignment. Mark fragile goods clearly.
Plan for delivery
Will there be a forklift at the delivery address? If not, ask for a tail lift. It lowers the pallet from the vehicle to the ground, and we offer it on request. A pump truck and trolley may also be available to move the pallet once it is on the ground.
Before collection
- Heavy goods at the bottom, nothing overhanging
- Tightly wrapped, including the pallet base
- Labelled on two sides with address and phone number
- Tail lift booked if there is no forklift at delivery
